Dangerous drink driver arrested after fleeing police in Derry while towing caravan

HAWK-EYED police on patrol over the Donegal International Rally at the weekend made a spectacular catch.

They arrested the driver for drink driving after he fled Ballyarnett NPP in this silver Peugeot 405 estate whilst towing a caravan.

He now faces a day in court before the local district judge for not being three times the drink drive limit but also for driving whilst disqualified and dangerous driving to name a few of the offences detected.

Writing on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page, an officer wrote: “Fast & the Furious 9 🎥 this was NOT 😏

“Ballyarnett NPT were out in force for the Donegal Rally at the weekend.

“We saw this dodgy car with different plates on the car 🚙 and the caravan and decided to pull it over.

“To our absolute shock 😱 the car failed to stop and made off at speed.

“I don’t know what he thought he was driving 🤷‍♂️ but he wasn’t going to get far towing a caravan 🙄.

“We pursued him down backroads before he jackknifed the car at Molly Malones on Northland Road.

“The two occupants fled but were caught by LPT and the driver arrested for Dangerous Driving, Driving whilst Disqualified, No Insurance, Theft, Failing to Stop and Drink Driving.

“This was a great catch which was only sullied by the fact that when the suspects ran off a member of the public came over and told us that he had seen the two occupants jump into a taxi and flee the area.

“In reality they were actually hiding round the corner and this random guy, who didn’t know them, was lying to us 🤥 to help them get away.

“The suspect ended up being 3 x over the drink drive limit so I hope that dishonest, lying eejit feels really proud of himself.”
