Radio Foyle broadcaster Eamon Friel who sadly died on Friday after a short illness

HUNDREDS of mourners are expected to attend the funeral of Eamon Friel next week.

Requiem Mass will be held on Monday at St Eugene’s Cathedral and the father of one will be laid to rest afterwards in the City Cemetery.

The popular songwriter and broadcaster sadly died on Friday morning after a short illness, his family said.

His death has shocked family, friends and his army of listeners who tuned in faithfully each Thursday night to listen to his Radio Foyle show ‘Songbook with Eamon Friel’.

A family notice reads: “FRIEL, 21 st. June 2019, at Altnagelvin Hospital, Eamon Patrick, Beloved Husband of Caitlin, Loving Father to Colum, Devoted Grandfather to Milla, Father-in-Law to Muriel, Dear Son of the Late Jimmy and Nancy.

“Funeral leaving his home 11 Marlborough Street, on Monday the 24th. inst. at 11:00 A.M. to St. Eugene’s Cathedral for Requiem Mass at 11:30 A.M.

“Interment afterwards in The City Cemetery.

“Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on his soul.

“Our Lady of Lourdes intercede for him.”
