SINN Fein Councillors Aileen Mellon and Sandra Duffy have welcomed the confirmation that full funding for the Galliagh and Shantallow Community Centres has been approved.

The Ballyarnett councillors said: “This is a very welcome announcement which means that these projects can now go out to tender in the coming weeks with diggers expected to be on site by the Autumn.

“These are much needed community facilities which Sinn Féin has been to the fore in lobbying for over a long number of years.

“Galliagh will see the construction of a brand new state of the art facility sited on the Fairview Road in the heart of our community.

“It will facilitate existing groups and be welcoming to new ones providing resources that have been sadly lacking previously.

“This funding will see the refurbishment of existing facilities bringing them up to the modern standards that our community needs and deserves.

“We would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved in bringing these projects to this stage and we look forward to seeing the work progress and final delivery of these much needed facilities to our community.”
