DETECTIVES investigating the report of a rape and attempted murder in Derry on Sunday 7th April are appealing to members of the public for information.

Sean Hegarty, of Balliniska Heights, was remanded in custody on Tuesday charged with the rape and attempted murder of a woman at the weekend at his flat in the Northlands area of the city.

Detective Constable Curry said: “A 27 year old man has been charged by detectives in relation to this incident and appeared at court earlier this week.

“We are, however, conducting further enquiries as part of our ongoing investigation.

“At this stage we are asking any member of the public who may have seen a female dressed in a green coat with fur trim on the hood, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms with three white stripes on the legs and white trainers, in the Northland Road or Springtown Road areas in the early hours of Sunday morning, to contact us.

“If anyone can recall seeing this female and can assist us with our enquiries they should contact detectives in Larne on 101 quoting reference number 242 07/04/19.”
