SINN Féin councillor for the Kingsfort area Mickey Cooper has welcomed confirmation that the transfer of a local greenspace from its owner to Derry City and Strabane District council has reached its final phase.
He said it was the culmination of five years of working with the council and the land owner.
Councillor Cooper explained: “I have been working with the private owner of the greenspace at Lisnarea/Ardnarea Crescent for the last five years to allow the land to be transferred to the council.
“This is to ensure that the space remains available for local residents for recreational purposes and to prevent it being built on in future.
“I am pleased to advise that the landowner has now lodged documentation with Land & Property Service to allow the final stage of the land transfer process to proceed.
“This may take several months and in the meantime I have arranged for the council to continue to cut the grass on the site.
“I will be in further contact with residents once the process is complete after which I intend to ask the council to carry out discreet landscaping improvements to the site,” he added.
