Resurfacing programme for the footpaths throughout Ballymagroarty – McGinley

Sinn Fein Councillor Eric McGinley

THE Roads Service has been urged to draw up a resurfacing programme for footpaths in the Ballymagroarty area, says a local councillor.

Sinn Fein Councllor Eric McGinley said: “In recent weeks Sinn Féin has met with Roads Service, Housing Executive, Department for Communities and the Council in order to raise concerns given to us by residents.

“The residents have expressed particular concern at the accumulation of moss on the footpaths which have made them look unsightly but have also made them dangerous to walk on.

“Whilst the agencies we have met have agreed to carry out cleansing work on the footpaths in the forthcoming period it is accepted that the longer term solution would be the resurfacing of the network with material which is easier to maintain.

“Myself and Raymond McCartney MLA have now written to the DfI Roads asking that a resurfacing scheme for footpaths in Ballymagroarty is included in its programme of works.

“We will also continue to work with the other agencies to improve the general appearance of the area and to make it a more visually welcoming environment for residents and visitors alike.”
