LOCAL people are being asked to sign up for a special 5k fundraising Walk/Run organised by North West Regional College (NWRC) in aid of Foyle Search and Rescue.

The event will take place on April 4, beginning at the Clock Tower at Ebrington Square at 7.30pm, taking participants over the city’s iconic Peace Bridge and finishing at NWRC’s Foyle Building at the quayside.

The event will also mark the end of NWRC’s annual couch to 5k ten-week (c25k) course, part of the College’s Health and Wellbeing programme.

The 5K Rescue Run on April 4 will mark the first event full 5k run for the NWRC group but the event is open to everyone in the North West.

Chief Executive and Principal of NWRC Leo Murphy said: “We want as many local people as possible to come out and support what promises to be a fantastic evening.

“The event is not just for runners, we want to encourage walkers to get involved.

“It’s all about staying active and fit. At the same time, the College will be supporting Foyle Search and Rescue in the valuable work they do, not only as an emergency service but within their education and outreach programmes.”

Stephen Twells, Chair of Foyle Search and Rescue asked as many people as possible to come along and support the walk/run on April 4.

He said: “On behalf of everyone at Foyle Search and Rescue I would like to thank the staff at North West Regional College for their work to organise the event, and for the energetic fundraising they have organised in the past year adopting Foyle Search and Rescue as their Charity of the Year.

“We, as a charity would like to see as many people get behind the run and join in what we believe will be a hugely successful event.”

The event costs just £10 to take part and every participant will have a chipped time, receive a special commemorative medal, T-shirt, Water bottle, and a goodie-bag.

Refreshments will be served afterwards in NWRC’s Foyle Building.
