Derry police warn motorists: stay legal or face cars being clamped or a date in court

POLICE in Derry said officers were out in the city today to keep pedestrians safe from illegal cars.

They have vowed to continue to identify those drivers who fail to keep their road legal while out on Derry’s roads.

And their message is very: keep your vehicle legal or face a clamping, penalty points or a day before the local magistrates court.

PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “What do points make?

“Pedestrians…..

“Otherwise known as non drivers.

“As part of our quest to keep people safe in our City we were part of an organised DVA Op on this lovely sunny day.

“Unfortunately the message isn’t quite getting through to motorists and not only were 18 Clamps and two tickets issued by the Clampits but your neighbourhood team issued 12 points for various motoring offences.

“And a couple of people will be making a guest appearance at Bishop Street for a meeting with our resident magistrate.

“This meeting will not be for tea and buns.

“The way to avoid points which definitely do not make prizes is to keep your vehicle legal.

“Help us keep our community safe.”
