Robbery captured on CCTV at newsagent’s shop in Blucher Street, Derry on Sunday

A 15-year-old schoolboy faced a court in Derry today following a robbery at a newsagent’s shop and the burglary of a home at the weekend.

The teenager, who cannot be named because of his aged, appeared at Derry Magistrate’s Court today charged with the robbery of a shop in Blucher Street in the Bogside at around 10.15 am on Sunday, February 1.

The youth was also charged with possessing an offensive weapon namely “a large carving knife.”

A female member of staff in the shop at the time was left “badly shaken” during the incident when a sum of cash was stolen.

The teen also faced a charge of stealing a TV on the same date from a house at Bond’s Hill in the city on the same date.

As no application for bail was made, the schoolboy was remanded in custody.

He will face Derry Youth Court on Tuesday, March 5.
