Dangerous driver of this moped in Derry now in custody on a number of motoring offences

POLICE have praised members of the community in Derry who alerted them to a male driving a moped dangerously around Derry.

One PSNI officer was injured during the course of the arrest of the male in the Northland Road area following several calls from members of the public about his erratic and dangerous driving, including riding with his feet on the handlebars!

He is now in police custody on a range of motoring offences ahead of a date in front of the district magistrate.

PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “Ballyarnett NPT would like to thank the person who took the time to report a male swerving all over the Northland road on a Moped.

“Also the person who reported the same male riding erratically along the footpath nearby.

“Same again to the person who observed him riding it in a dangerous manner 👹 with his feet up on the handlebars.

“Thanks, thanks and thanks again.

“As a result of these calls, our very own Terminator sprung into action. Even though it was not in Ballyarnett neighbourhood area he was up and out like a machine.

“He located the motorbike and believe it or not went after it on foot.

“Now before you start I know it’s not the biggest most powerful bike in the world. But to have ability to track him down, run after him and catch him with his bare hands is still impressive!

“Unfortunately, my colleague is not a robot and this is not the movies. He got injured 🤕 as a result of this arrest.

“Fear not, its not too serious and PSNI T1000 was still happy to carry on and book our new friend into ‘Costa Coleraine’ for multiple driving offences.”
