AS a part of this year’s Enterprise Week a Business Breakfast event to promote Apprenticeships and to encourage more businesses to sign up to offering apprenticeships as a career in their industry or sector, will take place at the Bishop’s Gate Hotel on Tuesday 5th March from 8.00 – 10.00 am.
Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Skills team has been working very proactively to promote Apprenticeships in partnership with local Private Training Organisations and the NW Regional College to help promote alternate paid pathways for post 16+ and to help make all young entrepreneurs aware of any and all options at their disposal within the Council area.
Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Apprenticeship campaign aims to increase the number of young people undertaking apprentices and the number of businesses offering apprenticeships, both HLA’s and Apprenticeship NI.
In an effort to get more businesses to see the benefits of apprenticeships, a Business Breakfast has been organised as part of Enterprise Week that will help highlight the benefits for employers and businesses as well as outline the training support that is available to employees and participants.
The business breakfast is an opportunity for employers to learn from other employers who have benefited from the programme, hear at first hand from apprentices that have had success with the programme and the mechanics of how it all works from DfE.
Encouraging businesses to sign up, Tina Gillespie, Skills Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council said the event is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to get involved and see how they can reap the benefits from offering apprenticeship opportunities in their workplace whilst securing a pipeline of future talent.
Highlighting the importance of the apprenticeship programme in the Council area she said:
“The Council is working proactively with a number of education providers, private training organisations, careers service and companies to encourage people to avail of apprenticeship opportunities that exist across the Council area.”

This business breakfast is a part of the annual Enterprise Week, which is being held between the 4th and 9th March and is designed to help encourage young entrepreneurs and offer helpful advice to as many people as possible.
