Anger after mindless vandals attack healthy living centre in Derry

THERE is deep anger in Creggan after mindless vandals smashed windows at the Old Library Trust (OLT) centre in Central Drive.

The management of the healthy living centre in Central have now called for an end to the attacks.

In a statement, it said: “Over the last number of weeks the OLT building has come under attack by vandals who have cost the organisation £1000s!!!!”

Windows in offices and the creche were smashed along with the creche exit door to the children’s play area.

While on the premises damage was also caused to the play area.

Added the management: “This is money that should have been spent on our programmes and services to help the most vunerable in our community!

“Can we appeal to the whole community to be extra vigilant?

“Can we ask all parents to talk to their children and explain the importance of the OLT to local people?

“The Managment and staff would like to thank local representatives in assisting with clean up and repair over the last few weeks.

“PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE NO MORE!”

Local Sinn Fein representative said: “It is absolutely shocking that the OLT which is a community building is constantly being attacked.

“I was down and saw the sheer destruction caused to the door of the creche which provides for local children in the area.

“The building provides an invaluable service to all generations within the community.

“I would encourage people to be vigilant and help stop these vandals.

“I have scheduled a meeting with relative agencies this week around the antisocial behaviour in Creggan and will be raising this,” she added.
