Remains of missing Derry pensioner Jean McGahey found on Donegal beach

GARDAI have identified human remains on a beach in Leenan, Clonmany earlier this week.

Following an examination, Gardai have confirmed they are that of missing Jean McGahey.

Ms McGahey was reported missing in Derry on November 18, 2018.

She was last seen in Buncrana on November, 19.

Her remains were found on the beach by a member of the public on Wednesday morning.

They were later removed to Letterkenny University Hospital where a post mortem was carried out by the State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.

Following the post-mortem, DNA profiling was carried out at the Forensic Science Laboratory and formal identification has now been confirmed.

Foul play is not suspected in Ms McGahey’s death.

A Garda file is now being prepared for the Coroner.
