REPUBLIC of Ireland and Stoke City winger James McClean has donated the proceeds from a match commentary he did to the Ryan McBride Foundation.

The foundation was set up following the sudden death of Derry City captain Ryan McBride in March 2017 at his home in the shadow of the Brandywell Stadium.

The charity works to help young people in Derry achieve their full potential.

Creggan-born James provided commentary for eir Sport’s coverage of the EA Sports Cup final between Derry City and Cobh Ramblers at the Brandywell in September.

The ex-Derry City player honoured his former team-mate following McBride’s death by wearing his number five jersey in a friendly appearance for the Republic of Ireland.

A spokesperson for the Ryan McBride Foundation thanked James for his support on Twitter, saying “Jwmes and his wife Erin have been great supporters of the group.

“Thank you folks. Very much appreciated.”
