SINN Féin Councillor Sharon Duddy has urged motorists to show due care and attention on the approach roads to several busy pedestrian crossings in the Bogside area during the current adverse weather conditions and particularly over the festive and New Year period.

She said: “I have been contacted by a number of residents who use the pedestrian crossings at the bottom of the Lecky Road Flyover and at Westland Street on a daily basis.

“And they have asked me to make an urgent appeal to the motorists to show due and care and attention on approaching the crossings in the area especially during wet and windy weather conditions. Particularly over the festive and New Year period.

“In some cases drivers are simply driving straight on at the crossings or approaching them too fast.

“Excess speed reduces drivers stoppage time and distance in the event of an accident,” added Cllr Duddy.
