It happened at the home of the elderly couple in the Craigadick Park area of Maghera on Saturday, November 24 between 6.10 pm and 7.25 pm.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Did you notice anything suspicious around that time, unusual cars or people around the area?

“Please contact Police at Magherafelt station on 101 quoting reference number 1169 of 24/11/18 if you can help.”

A daughter of the elderly couple has praised police who attended the burglary.

She added: “Whilst my parents were at mass om Saturday evening some absolute scumbags broke into their house and completely ransacked it.

“My mum has dementia and is absolutely distraught.
