SINN Féin’s Elisha McCallion has slammed the British Chancellor Philip Hammond for effectively scuppering a £12 million investment at Ebrington Square.
The Foyle MP was speaking after it emerged that the ‘Quiet Man’ distillery project, being taken forward by local company Niche drinks, was no longer viable after the British Government introduced a new tax that will affect such distilleries.
“If this investment is lost it will be a devastating blow for the entire Ebrington regeneration project,” she commented.
“It will also be a direct result of a decision taken by a British Chancellor who has no interest in the economic fortunes of Derry or the North West as a whole.
“This is the same British Chancellor who will be feted by the DUP when he appears as a guest at their party conference this weekend – yet another example of the toxic Tory-DUP pact and its consequences for the ordinary people of the North.
“Philip Hammond had other options available but instead chose to jeopardise jobs and investment in Derry.

“Philip Hammond did not have to take this course of action and I will be pressing him on that.
!I am also seeking meetings with the Executive Office, Invest NI and Niche Drinks to explore other options and solutions,” added the Foyle MP.
