SDLP councillor Brian Tierney with gutted car outside Spar shop

DEATH drivers are being hunted after they set fire to stolen car at the front of a shop in the Galliagh area of Derry.

The car was set alight in the early hours of this morning outside the Spar store on Fairview Road.

Local residents said that the incident is the latest in a spate of car crimes recently.

SDLP Councillor Brian Tierney issued an appeal to those responsible to think about the damage they are doing to this community.

He said: “Another burnt out car for young children to pass on their way to school this morning.

“The people who are doing this need to have a long hard look at themselves and think about what this actually does to our entire community.

“I have spoken to council to ensure that this vehicle is removed ASAP,” added Cllr Tierney.
