CHOICE Housing has had a double celebration, marking the anniversaries of two of their longest serving sheltered living schemes in the Derry area.

Lisnamon Court and Nora Frazer Court, both located on Irish Street in the City, celebrated serving the community for 35 and 25 years respectively.

Situated on the Waterside of the City originally, Lisnamon Court opened in 1983 and is comprised of 21 apartments and four bungalows.

Recently the scheme was refurbished to give the properties a new modern feel with new bathrooms fitted.

Nora Frazer Court originally named after a former Board Member is celebrating 25 years in the community and it includes 4 single bedroom bungalows and 6 double bedroom bungalows.

Both housing schemes have provided much needed living support to local people in the area, striking the balance between secure living and an independence that comes with the availability of a range of amenities within a short distance.

Lisnamon and Nora Frazer Courts are located conveniently for tenants to enjoy a fulfilling and independent social life, with two post offices, Lisnagelvin Shopping Centre, which hosts a range of shops, department stores and cafes and Lisnagelvin Retail Park.

In addition, Altnagelvin Hospital is also only half a mile away, which is easily accessible via the local a bus service that travels to the City centre.

Two long-term residents were recognised at the event including Valerie Logue and Kathleen Gallagher who have been residents for 30 and 23 years respectively.

Carol Ervine, Choice Group Director of Tenant and Client Services said:

“It’s always great to attend these celebration events as you see first-hand the difference sheltered living make to people’s lives and how tenants have made our schemes into their homes.

“Meeting tenants of both Lisnamon Court and Nora Frazer Court has been an incredible experience, hearing stories of when they first moved in and how the scheme has shaped their independent living.

“Having amenities and opportunities in close proximity allows tenants to live independently, while offering a social life that has a positive impact on their well-being.

“There is continued demand for social housing in the Derry and Strabane area and there is an ongoing commitment from statutory agencies to provide a high standard of housing, Choice are working with partners to address this housing need”.

This is one of many celebrations Choice Housing have marked with their tenants in recent months, showcasing sheltered living schemes and the much needed support they provide to communities across the North of Ireland.
