SINN Féin education spokesperson Karen Mullan MLA is encouraging nominations for the Derrytrasna Pastoral Care Awards.

Commenting on the opening of nominations the Foyle MLA said: “The Department of Education, in partnership with the Public Health Agency, is seeking examples of outstanding pastoral care in schools.

“The Derrytrasna Pastoral Care Award recognises the outstanding contribution of schools which show outstanding co-operative effort in supporting the pastoral care of pupils.

“There are fantastic examples of co-operation between the Department of Education and the Public Health Agency in our school communities and this is an opportunity to highlight and give recognition to this work.”

The Derrytrasna Pastoral Care Award is named after St Mary’s Primary School in Derrytrasna, the school whose exceptional pastoral care for a terminally ill pupil inspired the award.

‘The nomination process will conclude on December 14.
