SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson will host a delegation in the European Parliament in Brussels today, Tuesday, November 6, looking at the impact Brexit will have on women.

Martina Anderson said: “No group in our society will be untouched by Brexit but women will be among those most disproportionately impacted.

“I am hosting a delegation of women from across the north from a wide range of organisations at the European Parliament in Brussels.

“The delegates will participate in panel discussions with MEPs from across Europe as well as officials and senior figures from the Executive office in Brussels and the European Union of Women among other groups.

“Among the issues for discussion will be gender equality, employment legislation, children’s rights, family disputes, domestic violence and other issues that could be impacted by Brexit and the possible implications of a Brexit border.

“It is vitally important that the voice of women is heard in Europe around Brexit and this delegation reflects a broad range of interests from the women’s sector.

“I would also encourage women’s groups and others north and south to make their voices heard, even at this late stage of the negotiations to ensure the backstop is maintained and that our rights are protected and built upon.”
