Eastwood: Dominic Raab must understand the real implications of Brexit

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has emphasised the catastrophic implications Brexit will have on the North of Ireland in a meeting with Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab earlier today.

The Foyle MLA said: “The British Government need to understand that the European Union is standing firm behind the people of Northern Ireland, they understand how important our peace process is and how important it is to have no border infrastructure on the island of Ireland.

“Today we emphasised to the Brexit Secretary how disastrous a no-deal Brexit will be for the people of the North, as we have many times before.

!The British Government must not underestimate this and ensure the backstop is part of the deal.

“The backstop, albeit not perfect, must be in place and must be permanent,” he added.
