Eastwood: The time for a deal is now

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood meeting the EU’s Michel Barnier with Sinn Fein’s Michelle O’Neill, Stephen Farry of Alliance and the Green Party’s Stephen Agnew

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood MLA has reiterated his call for the pro-remain majority to come together and support the position of the European Union to protect Ireland from a hard border and hard Brexit.

Speaking from Brussels, Mr Eastwood commented:

“The time to deliver on a deal is now. The North cannot be left to the fate of a reckless, no-deal Brexit.

“At this stage in the negotiations, it is vital that people do not look for problems where they don’t exist. This is not about the constitutional question.

“Anyone trying to stoke fears about constitutional change is being disingenuous and undermining what is truly at stake here.

“The only way the constitutional position can change is through referenda as laid down in the Good Friday Agreement.

“We need to stop the dramatics and get down to making an agreement that protects all of our people,” added the Foyle MLA.
