POLICE are advising motorists to avoid the Limavady Road in Derry where a lorry has broken down.

The PSNI say motorists should seek and alternative and “take care when travelling” because of the high winds whipped by Storm Ali.

The Foyle Bridge remains closed and police say drivers should leave extra time for their journeys.

Meanwhile, Derry City and Strabane District Council say due to the ongoing severe weather conditions, Brooke Park Leisure Centre has been closed to the public.

Alternative facilities at Templemore Sports Complex and Foyle Arena are available and remain open.

The Claudy Recycling centre has also been closed due to the high winds.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and will reopen the facility as soon as it is deemed safe for users,” said a council spokesperson.
