Foyle Bridge, parks and cemeteries closed in Derry as Storm Ali sweeps in

THE Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for Derry today.

As a result, the Foyle Bridge has been closed to traffic.

Derry City and Strabane District Council says its “parks and cemeteries are closed Counci will remain closed today until further notice to ensure public safety. Other services are being reviewed and further updates will be provided.”

The weather warning is for wind that could bring gusts as strong as 75 mph inland.

The weather warning is valid from 8 am to 5 pm on Wednesday, September 19.

“Storm Ali will bring a spell of very strong winds to Northern Ireland from early on Wednesday morning,” say the Met Office.

“Strong winds will be accompanied by heavy squally showers.

“The Met Office has issued a severe amber weather warning of wind for all of the North of Ireland.

“Winds will ease from the west through the afternoon.”

Police are also advising to exercise extreme caution in adverse weather conditions.

“We would advised motorists to stay in their vehicles.”
