Derry City v Cobh Ramblers: All ‘Hale’ Holy Family for EA Sports Cup Final

Ronan Hale’s family and friends from Holy Family in Belfast coming to Sunday’s EA Sports Cup Final

DERRY City can count on a little extra backing on Sunday when they take on Cobh Ramblers in the EA Sports cup final as upwards of 100 visitors from North Belfast are set to join the Brandywell faithful.

The travelling party are all members of Holy Family Youth Centre in Belfast and will be at the game to cheer on former members Ronan and Rory Hale.

It isn’t the first time this season that the club has been to a City game- they took around 50 members to Oriel Park earlier in the year- but it will be their first time at the revamped stadium.

Spokesman Brian McKevitt said that Sunday was the ideal occasion to make their Brandywell debut and that everyone was looking forward to the outing.

“We had always planned to come at some point to support the two lads and a cup final seemed the ideal opportunity. Holy Family is a tightly knit group and we like to see any of our former members succeed.”

“As well as football we have followed the boxing career of World Champion Ryan Burnett, another one of our own; but this weekend is all about the Hales.”

“It started off with us booking a 50-seater bus but now we have additional cars going as well and there has been a great interest in the trip. Quite a few are going to stay in Derry and make a night of it.”

“In all I’d say there could be anything up to 120 of us going to the game and it goes without saying we’d love to see the brothers pick up a winners’ medal. We have 25 red and white flags to bring with us- ‘donated’ by the local Cliftonville supporters club and ‘doctored’ for the occasion.”

“All we need now is a win for the Candystripes” he concluded.

Amen to that, brother!
