Police take another dangerous car off the streets of Derry

THE driver of this dangerous car is facing a day in court after it was seized this afternoon by police in Derry.

Police say the driver – who they dubbed as ‘Lewis Hamilton’ after the Formula 1 race ace – fled from them at speed.

The Vauxhall Astra was later recovered by police but the driver and two passengers all denied knowledge of it.

Officer are not studying CCTV footage and are examining a door key left behind in the vehicle.

An officer wrote on the PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page: “We were recently climbing the hill to Cornshell Fields when we notice an Astra 🚘 with go fast stripes approaching from within the estate.

“Nothing new here, however, in this vehicle were three fellas 😬😬😬 all well known to your local neighbourhood team.

“Everything still appeared normal until the driver gave us that look again. You know the one, like when you catch your small child 😰 with his hand in the cookie jar between meals.

“The vehicle then speeds past us towards Racecourse Road. It was a busy day and there were at least two vehicles between the dodgy motor and the junction so we should easily catch up and speak with this naughty boy.

“However, when we get turned and had sight of the junction the dodgy motor is nowhere to be seen. Even Lewis Hamilton could not carry out this manoeuvre safely ☡. Especially on this stretch of road!!!.

“To our surprise the Lewis Hamilton wannabee appears a short time later accompanied by his two cronies. When stopped they deny all knowledge of the incident.

“Later we located the distinctive vehicle, go fast stripes and all. It was abandoned out of sight from the main road and has now been seized.

“Another death trap off the road 🚔👍.

“In his hurry to get away ‘Lewis’ left his house key along with the car keys in the ignition of the dodgy motor. He also parked the dodgy motor below a CCTV camera 😂.

“More paperwork but it’s worth it.”
