THE funeral is due to take place of a pedestrian killed after being hit by a car in Co Derry.

Eamon McCafferty (58) died after he was struck on the Foreglen Road near Claudy during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Mr McCafferty, who was married with two children, was from the Derry area.

Requiem Mass for Mr McCafferty is due to take place at St Columb’s Church in Derry on Wednesday at 10 am.

Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery, Ardmore.

Detectives have appealed for anyone who saw the crash or was travelling on the road at the time to contact them.

PSNI Inspector Peter Duncan said: “We are especially keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash-cam footage of the man walking along the road or of the blue Hyundai involved in the collision.”

Sinn Féin MLA Caoimhe Archibald expressed her sympathies to the family and friends of Mr McCafferty.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the man,” she said.

“This was a terrible tragedy and I would appeal to anyone with information that could assist the PSNI to bring forward.”

DUP assembly member Gary Middleton said: “Heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
