Essential resurfacing work to start next month at the busy Caw Roundabout in Derry

SDlP councillor Martin Reilly says resurfacing work is set to begin on one of the busiest roundabouts in Derry at the start of next month.

The Department for Infrastructure and contractor FP McCann have confirmed that essential resurfacing work at the Caw Roundabout in a letter to the leader of the SDLP on Derry City and Strabane District Council.

The work will take place between Sunday, September 2 until Wednesday, September 5.

The DFI has said the work will be carried out between 7pm and 7am in order to minimise disruption.

Ahead of the scheme, advice has been given to motorists about traffic arrangements to accommodate the work.

During stage one of the work, the green hatched area on the roundabout nearest Waterfoot Park and Foyle Bridge will be closed for resurfacing.

During this a contraflow system will be set up to allow traffic to travel in both directions on the city bound lane of Clooney Road dual carriageway.

Crescent Link will be closed from its junction with Sperrin Park and Foyle Bridge/Madams Bank Roadd will also be closed.

Motorists will be advised of the Foyle Bridge closure by message signs dispersed throughout the city.

Traffic from Clearwater and Bridge Water will also have to enter the contraflow at the crossover at Caw Hill Park.

During phase two of the resurfacing, the green hatched area on the roundabout nearest Crescent Link will be closed for resurfacing.

During this a contraflow system will be set up to allow traffic to travel in both directions on the Limavady bound lane of Clooney Road dual carriageway.

Councillor Reilly welcomed the work but said he hoped disruption would be kept to a minimum.
