Moves to address anti community activity at Creggan Burn park welcomed – Cooper

SINN Féin Rosemount Councillor Mickey Cooper has welcomed moves by Derry City and Strabane District Council to carry out safety checks and repairs to the perimeter fence around Creggan Burn Park after vandals removed sections of the fencing there.

He said: “There had been a number of problems at the Creggan Burn Park in recent weeks with parts of the fencing being removed by young people to make a couple of easy access points.

“I asked the Council to carry out a full check of the fencing to highlight any areas that need repaired.

“I would like to thank the council for the speedy repair of this fence which will hopefully reduce the anti-community activity.

“Over the last few weeks I have also been talking to a number of local firms who were having wooden pallets stolen from their premises.

“I am pleased to say they have put in additional security measures which has greatly reduced pallets being taken and burned at the park lands.

“Once again I would make an appeal for young people not to destroy the park.

“It’s a great asset right in the heart of the community and the last thing we want to see is any sort of vandalism there.”
