Members of Sinn Fein holding a vigil last night for Tony Taylor at Free Derry Corner

THE campaigning wife of republican prisoner Tony Taylor has hit out at Sinn Fein for failing to invite her to vigil about her husband last night.

The vigil was held last night at Free Derry Corner as part of the Gasyard Feile.

Lorraine Taylor took to Twitter last night to criticise Sinn Fein for failing to invite her or the Tony Taylor campaign to the vigil.

She tweeted: “You couldn’t make this up.

“There we have Shame Fein had a vigil at Free Derry corner for my husband tonight.

“Guess wat?

“They forgot to invite our family or the campaign.

“2 of their members are in our campaign couldn’t get in touch not shocked at all.

“Propaganda at its best.

“So annoyed cos it is only my husband.

“There a joke.

“U would think they would have the decency to ask like.”

During the vigil, Sinn Fein justice spokesman Raymond McCartney called for Tony Taylor’s immediate release.

Speaking after attending th rally at Free Derry Corner, the Foyle MLA said:

“Tony Taylor has now spent over 840 days in Maghaberry Prison, without having been charged, questioned or allowed legal representation.

“Sinn Féin has consistently stated that if evidence exists to show that Tony Taylor is a risk to the public it should be put before him and his legal team in open court so this can be challenged.

“His unjust detention in this way fuels the perception of a form of legalised interment by remand. It is a violation of fundamental human rights and subversion of due process.

“Sinn Féin recently met with the British Secretary of State and reminded her of the considerable strain that Tony’s detention is having on his wife, family and parents.

“We will continue to raise his case with every level of the British Government until he is freed.”
