Brendan McDonagh remanded in custody t Derry Magistrates’ Court sitting in Omagh charged with attempted driving over his ex-partner’s arm

A Derry man has appeared in court accused of running over his former partner’s arm with a van.

Brian McDonagh, of Winchester Park in the city, faced Derry Magitrates’ Court sitting in Omagh today for a first remand hearing.

The 41-year-old has been charged with causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, threatening to kill the woman, driving while unfit, kidnapping and false imprisonment on August 8.

He also was charged with a series of driving charges of failing to report, remain and failing to stop on the same date.

A charge of attempted murder was withdrawn.

The charges are in relation to a van which is claimed McDonagh drove over his ex-partner’s arm and then allegedly reversed over it twice on Wednesday evening.

A distrit judge said that given the seriousness of the charges, he was refusing bail.

McDonagh was remanded in custody to Maghaberry prison until Thursday, September 6.
