MARITIME Melodies will make sure there is music in the Derry air every day of the Foyle Maritime Festival.
From lunchtime until night-time throughout the festival from July 14 – 22, a packed programme promises to have something for everyone from jazz and traditional to salsa and gospel.
Jacqueline Whoriskey from Derry City and Strabane District Council said: “We are delighted to be able to offer such a diverse range of music to our programme this year. No matter what time you visit the festival, you will be entertained by talented singers and musicians.”
Groups and individuals from across the North West region and beyond will be taking it in turns to entertain the crowds passing up and down along the quay all day, taking in all that the Foyle Maritime Festival has to offer.
Based at the main stage in the Festival Village, visitors can stop and take a seat or just stroll on by while enjoying the performers.
Among them will be showcases from the Tuned In Project and the North West Regional College (NWRC), as well as ladies’ choirs, male choirs, duos, trios and soloists and more!
Members of the public can join in too when a Pub Choir Challenge takes place on Wednesday, July 18.
Organisers of this year’s Foyle Maritime Festival say that the ‘singalong’ will be a great way to promote the ‘City of Song’ to an international audience during the final stages of the Clipper Round the World yacht race – and that on the fun night in question they’ll be on a mission to prove everyone in the city can sing!
They are aiming for hundreds of people to sing along on the night to The Hues Corporation’s ‘Rock the Boat’ and Otis Redding’s ‘Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay’.
But if you don’t feel like singing, how about tinkling the ivories as pianos will also be located along the quay for open sessions to keen players.
