Fahan Street remains closed this morning after two explosive devices were thrown at police in the early hours of this morning

SINN Fein’s Karen Mullan has called for end to the violence in Derry after a sixth night of prolonged street violence, including further attempts to murder police.

Said the Foyle MLA: “I’m appealing for those who are attacking the Bogside to stop and leave immediately and all of those gathered watching, think of what ur presence is doing to residents.

“I’m in contact all evening with residents and Alexandra House they are terrified.

“END THIS NOW.”

Three men have been arrested including a 22-year-old who is in custody for trying to kill police officers in the city last night.

Two improvised explosive devices were hurled at police officers in riot gear in Fahan Street.

A total of 74 petrol bombs were thrown during the violence in the Bogside.

Fahan Street remains closed this morning where youths erected makeshift barricades and set them alight during the trouble last night and into the early hours of this morning.
