MAYOR of Derry City and Strabane District Council Councillor John Boyle has launched a free ‘Park and Ride’ shuttle service which will be provided by Translink at peak times during this year’s Foyle Maritime Festival (14-22 July 2018).

The free service will operate on the two weekends of the festival – Friday 14 & Saturday 15 July, and Friday 20, Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 July.

The two pick-up locations for the free ‘Park and Ride’ shuttle service are St Columb’s College, Buncrana Road and the new Foyle College, Limavady Road – and will drop people off at Sainsbury’s bus stop on the quayside.

Translink will operate the free ‘Park and Ride’ shuttle service approximately every 20 minutes from St Columb’s College, Buncrana Road and every 30 minutes from the new Foyle College, Limavady Road on the following dates / times:

Saturday 14th July 12noon – 10pm

Sunday 15th July 12noon – 10pm

Friday 20th July 12noon – 12midnight

Saturday 21st July 12noon – 10pm

Sunday 22nd July 12noon – 6pm

Speaking at the launch event, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr John Boyle said: “I am delighted to join up with Translink to launch the free shuttle service.

“This is an excellent addition for people wanting to get to and from this year’s Foyle Maritime Festival – and I have no doubts that it will be heavily used.

“I am also delighted that our city will be transformed into an international marina for the festival – with amazing entertainment, music, food markets and arts & crafts stalls – as it prepares to welcome back the Clipper Race yachts.

“With so many people expected to make the journey into the city centre to enjoy the packed programme of family friendly activities, it is great that this free shuttle service will provide easy access to the quayside.”

Translink’s Service Delivery Manager Alan Young says using public transport will be a convenient way to soak up all the action:

“We’re pleased to support the Foyle Maritime Festival and bring more visitors to the city for this fantastic summer event. We’ve a wide range of discount bus, coach and train services and discount tickets available as well as a free Park & Ride shuttle bus service.

“Our Goldline 212 coach service offers a fast, frequent and comfortable service to and from the city.

“You could also hop on the train for a scenic and relaxing journey to the North West. Once in the city, get on board our convenient Foyle Metro Services and explore the city streets.

“Our Family and Friends Ticket offers unlimited bus and train day travel throughout Northern Ireland for up to 2 adults and 4 children for just £18 – perfect for a family adventure.

“You can also enjoy a third-off NI Railways day return journeys after 9.30am or a £9 Bus Rambler ticket for unlimited Translink bus and coach travel after 9.15am. And we’ve day return journeys for the price of a single on Goldline and Ulsterbus after 9.30am.

“To plan your journey and select your best value ticket simply click www.translink.co.uk/foylemaritimefestival/ or call 90 66 66 30,” said Alan.
