The time for action is now, expel the Israeli ambassador – McCartney

SINN Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has called on the Irish government to finally take action and expel the Israeli ambassador to Ireland.

The call comes after two more Palestinians were killed and hundreds injured by Israeli forces during the 14th Great March of Return protest at the Gaza border on Friday.

The Foyle MLA said: “Hundreds of Palestinians have been murdered and thousands of others injured since these protests began at the Gaza border in May. Another two young people were struck down on Friday.

“Enough is enough. This is the time for action. This massacre cannot be allowed to continue without international sanction.

“Today, women in Gaza are marching in opposition to the illegal blockade and continued military occupation of Gaza.

“The Irish Government must give a strong and unambiguous statement that there can be no impunity for Israel’s mass killing of Palestinians citizens and its continued illegal occupation of Palestine.

“It’s long past time for An Taoiseach to expel the Israeli ambassador and officially recognise the state of Palestine as approved by the Dáil in 2014. There can be no further delay,” he added.
