FOOD lovers across the North West are in for a real treat with news that the ‘Flavours of the Foyle’ is returning to Derry~Londonderry as part of Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Foyle Maritime Festival that is taking place in Derry from 14th – 22nd July 2018.
The Flavours of the Foyle – Seafood Trail will take place from Saturday 14th July – Sunday 22nd July 2018 and is a real food showcase that shines a light on the wealth of local seafood on offer in Northern Ireland and is a real opportunity for promote local produce at its best.
Announcing details of the Flavours of the Foyle today, Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Alderman Derek Hussey said he was really impressed with the range of events organised and the high profile chefs taking part.
“This is a fantastic event and a great enhancement to the Foyle Maritime Festival schedule and something I am really looking forward to.
“It is great to see local chefs teaming up with celebrity chefs such as Nick Nairns and Ian Orr to cook a range of signature dishes using the best seafood of the region.
“The Flavours of the Foyle is a great way for us to celebrate the talent and culinary skills that earned the city the accolade of “Destination Delicious” at the Tourism Northern Ireland Awards, following its Year of Food and Drink in 2016.”
Foodie fans can also enjoy several celebrity chef demonstrations showcasing their mouth-watering cuisine and entertaining spectators with their expert knowledge to deliver a unique culinary experience.
The ‘Seafood Kitchen’ will run on 14th & 15th July and be located alongside the Maritime Markets where the public will be encouraged to taste and buy the freshest, finest regional produce available locally and try those recipes out at home afterwards.
A picnic zone will be set up in this area, where the public can dine alfresco or simply chill out with the family and enjoy the festival atmosphere and entertainment.
Catherine Goligher, Food Tourism Project Officer with Derry City and Strabane District Council says the food element is a very strong feature of this year’s Maritime Festival programme with something for every member of the family to enjoy.
She said: “We are delighted to have the Seafood trail included in the programme and seafood lovers attending the festival are guaranteed that they are in for a real treat. A host of award winning chefs will be offering a range of bespoke dishes celebrating the range of fresh seafood on offer and catering for all tastes and budgets.
“It is a great opportunity for the public to choose from a wide range of menus on offer, and with so much to choose from you might want to try a new dish and location every night!”
The trail has been organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council.
