North West bears the brunt of flash floods

The clean up operation underway at Meadowlane Shopping Centre in Maghaberafelt last night after torrential downpour flooded the building

THE north west appeared to bear the brunt of the worst of flash floods last night.

Roads in Ballykelly,, Greysteel, Limavady and the A2 Clooney Road in Derry were near impassable as black storm clouds swept in torrential rain.

There are incidents of flooding in Magherafelt which the Fire Service attended.

The Meadowlane Shopping Centre in Magherafelt was also flooded.

A major clean up is underway was underway last night after torrential rain forced the closure of the shopping centre.

At least nine businesses were flooded at the Moneymore Road end of the centre around 7 pm.

The Met Office has warned of more thunderstorms and torrential rain for today, Saturday, June 2, starting from 11 am to around 9 pm this evening.
