Mobile stolen from customer while shopping at Sainsbury’s store in Derry

POLICE in Derry are urging a female shop lifter to come forward or face arrest for stealing a mobile phone earlier this week.

The incident happened at Sainsbury’s store on Strand Road on Tuesday.

The PSNI say are they offering the woman the chance to give herself up or face exposure over social media as she was caught in the act on CCTV of stealing the phone.

Writing on PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page, an officer said:

“Were you shopping in Sainsbury’s, Strand Road on Tuesday 22nd May at 5pm?

“Did you use a self service til to pay for your shopping?

“Did you lift an iPhone from somebody else’s shopping basket?

“Were you wearing a pink blazer, a white top and floral trousers?

“Do you have a guilty conscience?

“We could go on but we think you get the swing of things.

“We have clear CCTV image of the female that took it.

“Save yourself some time and embarrassment of having your picture published in the local papers and possibly on our Facebook page to be seen by thousands!

“Hand the phone in to Strand Road Enquiry Office quoting reference number 1168 of 22/05/18 and it will find its way back to the rightful owner.

“Provide your details and I’ll give you a call over the weekend to see how we can deal with it.”
