Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has called on the international community to take action to halt Israel’s indiscriminate slaughter of Palestinians.
The party’s group leader on DCSDC was speaking ahead of a rally at Free Derry Corner this evening, Tuesday, May 15 at 8 pm.
It is being organised by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign. She will speak on behalf of Sinn Féin.
Sandra Duffy, who will speak on behalf of Sinn Fein said:
“The Israeli occupation is once again engaged in the indiscriminate slaughter of Palestinians with scores killed and over a thousand injured on Monday morning alone.
“The international community cannot continue to stand by and allow this slaughter to continue. Israel should be held to account for its actions and compelled to comply with the numerous international resolutions which it is in breach of.
“But rather than hold Israel to account, the US administration has rewarded them through the disastrous decision to open their embassy in Jerusalem.
“This was always an incendiary decision and to time it to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Nakba, when more than 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes, has led to a catastrophic situation.
“It is long past time that the international community took action against Israel for their aggression and flagrant disregard for UN resolutions.
“The Irish Government should also show leadership by immediately expelling the Israeli ambassador.”
