Police seize large quantity of alcohol from teenagers in St Columb’s Park

POLICE patrols have seized a large quantity of alcohol from teenagers and arrested one male in St Columb’s Park.

The PSNI have been stepping up patrols in the park following recent reports of underage drinking and anti-social behaviour.

An officer wrote in PSNI Foyle’s Facebook page: “Well ya can’t say we didn’t warn you! I told you if you bring drink to St Columbs Park, we would just take it off you!

“Along with our colleagues from DST, TSG and LPT4 who all patrolled St Columb’s Park on Friday nght, we seized over 120 bottles of drink tonight and yes, you broke my heart with all the other drink we poured out.

“While the majority of people there were good natured, someone broke our back window while we were patrolling the park and one male was arrested for public order offences and is currently gracing Hotel Strand Road with his presence.

“We have to look at the bigger picture here, teenagers are getting alcohol from somewhere.

“If you know anyone who is selling or supplying alcohol to young people, tell us.

Call us on 101 or if you want to leave information anonymously, call crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“Like I’ve said before, this is an issue important to the community and that’s why we’re here and that’s why we’ll keep coming back.

“A thank you goes out to the Park Rangers and Community Safety Wardens for their work on Friday night and a special thank you goes to the two very dedicated volunteers from St Johns Ambulance who patrolled St Columbs Park the whole night.
