Breaking News….Suspicious objects sparks fresh security alert in Derry

POLICE are in attendance at another security alert in Derry this morning.

The Lone Moor Road has been closed following the discovery of a suspicious object.

Diversions are in place and motorists are advised to to avoid the area.

Derry City and Strabane District Council say: “Access to the City Cemetery via the bottom gates of Lonemoor Road is closed due to an ongoing security alert in the city.

“The public are encouraged to use the top entrance at Creggan gate

It is the third security alert in the city in 24 hours.

The first alert was at a house in Drumleck Drive yesterday morning.

The house is owned by the elderly parents of a serving police officer.

Then in the early hours of this morning another alert was sparked in Inishowen Gardens.

Both were declared as elaborate hoaxes..
