AFTER visiting the housing development at Skeoge Sinn Féin Councillor Caoimhe Mcknight has welcomed the news that another 180 new social homes have got planning approval by Derry City and Strabane district council.

The homes could be ready for allocation within the next year.

Councillor McKnight said: “This is a good news story for social housing provision in Derry and for the hundreds of people on the homeless waiting list.

“When these social homes are ready it will bring the number of social homes constructed  by Apex Housing in Skeoge to almost 450 units.

“And with more housing  applications waiting for approval this can only be good news for  homeless families in our city

“I would like to congratulate Apex Housing Association for all the new builds of social homes that are happening  at the  Skeoge lands.

“The number of people waiting for a home in the city has increased dramatically over the past few years and these houses will go some way to alleviating that problem,” she added.
