Nexus NI is urging people from across the province to step up and show their support by joining the charity for a fantastic fundraising abseil at Belfast Castle. Taking place on Sunday 25th March and Sunday 25th May, the event is perfect for both those who are new to abseiling, or simply those who may be looking for a new challenge.

NEXUS NI is urging people from across the province to step up and show their support by joining the charity for a fantastic fundraising abseil at Belfast Castle.

The charity has three offices in the North of Ireland, including one at Clarendon Street, in Derry.

Taking place on Sunday 25th March and Sunday 25th May, the event is perfect for both those who are new to abseiling, or simply those who may be looking for a new challenge.

Entrants will get special access to the castle’s lookout tower, which is normally off-limits to the public, providing spectacular views across Belfast Lough, before abseiling approximately 100ft to cheers from family and friends below.

Commenting on the fund raising and awareness raising event, Karen Dunlop-Wainwright, Community Fundraising lead with Nexus NI, said:

“You can do your bit to ‘Make Noise for Nexus’ and help to break the silence on sexual violence by taking part in this fun and memorable challenge.

“This is the first abseiling event we have been involved in and we’d love to see people from towns across NI coming together in support of our work.

“By taking part, you are not only raising vital funds, but also important awareness of our work and the specialist counselling and services we can deliver to help victims of sexual violence.”

Nexus NI provides free information, support and therapeutic counselling to survivors of sexual violence.

With a presence right across the province, Nexus NI delivered over 17,000 counselling sessions last year, helping more than 1000 men, women and children to rebuild their lives.

However, the charity relies on fundraised income to keep up with increasing demand for its services and clients’ needs.

There is a registration fee of £35 to secure your abseil place and Nexus asks everyone taking part to aim to raise a minimum sponsorship of £80 in support of their work.
