DERRY City and Strabane District Council has confirmed it could take some time before the refurbished Brandywell Stadium is able to operate at its full 3,700 capacity.

Next Monday night’s ‘homecoming’ on March 12 against Limerick will have a reduced capacity of 2,600 because of safety management arrangements.

A spokesperson for the council said: “The capacity for next Monday’s game at the Brandywell will be 2,600 based on stadia licensing requirements.

“The capacity will be increased at subsequent matches as part of an ongoing review process of spectator safety arrangements agreed by the Council and the emergency services, with a view to operating at full capacity over a period, in keeping with legislation governing designated sports stadia venues.”

Meanwhile, due to the weather conditions the Derry v Dundalk game has been rescheduled to Monday, March 19

A club spokesperson said: “For those who have already purchased tickets online or from any of our outlets – please hold onto your ticket as these are still vaild for the rescheduled game.

“For anyone who has purchased a ticket and cannot make the re-arranged date, a refund will be available until Wednesday 14th of March 2:00pm at the club shop in Rathmor (this allows us as a club to sell any refunded tickets as this game is sure to sell out)- after that no refunds will be made available.”
