SDLP councillors have attended the first day of an inquest into the death of Derry mother Kathleen Thompson.

Mrs Thompson was shot dead by a British solider in 1971.
The inquest started today at the courthouse in Derry.

SDLP Derry and Strabane District Council Group Leader Martin Reilly said:

“Almost 50 years after Kathleen Thompson was shot dead by the British Army, her family are still struggling for truth, justice and accountability for a loved mother.

“Their campaign for justice mirrors that of so many people who have had their lives put on hold as they fight for the truth about what happened to their loved ones.

“I’m here today with my colleagues Cllr Brian Tierney and Cllr John Boyle to show our support for the Thompson family and all those who are still waiting for an inquest.”
