The ‘Beast from the East’ to bring snow and plunging -5 temperatures next week

Just when we thought the evenings were getting longer and a little warmer, we are set to be plunged back into the depths of freezing temperatures and snow!

Forecasters have warned that a massive cold front will hit next week with overnight lows of up to -5 degrees in places.

BBC weatherman Barra Best says we had better wrap up.

“The thermals are going to come in handy in the coming days as cold air blasts in from the east. #Brrr.” he tweeted.

Forecasters have warned that up to 10cms of snow may hit Belfast and the Mourne Mountains which means Derry could also be hit badly.

The freezings winds will come from Scandinavia and Siberia will keep Derry in an icy grip for at least the next week.

The PSNI and Derry and Strabane Council has warned people to take extra care when driving.
