DERRY is among five locations across the North of Ireland which has made it to the finals of this year’s Britain in Bloom awards.

The Royal Horticultural Society revealed the nationwide finalists, with Derry, Ballymena and Belfast earning a place on the shortlist.

Hillsborough in Co Down and Castlecaulfied in Co Tyrone have also made it to the final.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Belfast in October.

Darren Share, who chairs the Britain in Bloom judging panel, said: “The Britain in Bloom campaign galvanises communities and provides the driving force for thousands of gardening enthusiasts across the country.

“Britain in Bloom groups work tirelessly throughout the year to tackle local issues and improve the place they call home.

“Everyone benefits from the work these groups carry out and I have seen first-hand the positive impact Britain in Bloom has in bringing communities together.”
