Martina Anderson and Catalan President Carles Puigdemont.

SINN Féin MEP Martina Anderson has met with Catalan President Carles Puigdemont in Brussels today to discuss Catalan independence.

Martina Andersons said:

“I met with Catalan President Charles Puigdemont in Brussels today to discuss the independence referendum and the upcoming elections in Catalonia.

“I welcome the fact that the international arrest warrant issued against him has now been withdrawn.

“I also welcome the fact that a number of Catalan ministers detained following the referendum have now been released on bail but they should never have been charged in the first place.

“Others, however, remain in custody. All charges against them should be dropped and they should be released immediately.

“I assured Carles Puigdemont that I will be in Barcelona for the elections in December just as I was for the referendum in October and of our continuing solidarity with the Catalan people.”
