A CHRISTMAS CRACKER OF A NIGHT WITH THE ULSTER ORCHESTRA AND STRABANE CHAMBER CHOIR

THE Ulster Orchestra will bring its hugely popular Christmas sing-along show to the Alley Theatre Strabane on Saturday, December 16.

Soprano Marcella Walsh will be joining the party to bring you well known festive classics and carols in this Christmas cracker of a night.

Unfortunately, the orchestra’s much-loved conductor, Christopher Bell, can no longer perform due to personal circumstances but they are delighted to welcome Ryan Bancroft in his place, along with host for the night, television personality Sarah Travers.

The ‘On Your Doorstep’ concert series is a new initiative which began in the Orchestra’s 50th anniversary year where they play in as diverse a range of venues as possible across Northern Ireland, supported by JTI.

The Alley Theatre is delighted the local Strabane Chamber Choir will be performing on the night from 7.15pm in the Alley Theatre Gallery before the Ulster Orchestra performs in the main auditorium at 8pm.

Formed in September 2014 by local musician and conductor Gerard Bradley, the choir is draws members from Tyrone, Derry and Donegal who come from a variety of backgrounds but are linked by a common love of choral music.

The choir have been busy this year, competing in choral festival competitions and performing at concerts and gatherings in venues such as the Guildhall, Melmount Church and Letterkenny Cathedral.

Their repertoire ranges from the classical to the popular and takes in most every genre along the way.

This Autumn saw them gaining a runners up spot in the ‘Mixed Voice’ section of the Derry National Choral festival and second place at a national competition in Sligo where 20 choirs from all over Ireland took part.

Tickets for the event are priced at £14 or £12 (con) and are available from the Alley Theatre on www.alley-theatre.com or by calling the box office on 028 7138 4444.
